School Philosophy

The educational philosophy of Holy Martyrs ARS Ashkhen Pilavjian Preschool is child-centered and developmentally based. We believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically and socially.

We believe that children grow and learn at their own pace at each developmental stage. Research has shown that children learn best through their own initiated activities and active exploration of their environment by using their five senses. We believe that children are protagonists in their learning.

The program curriculum is based on the child development principles and theories of Piaget, Erikson, Vygotsky and Malaguzzi.  Teachers incorporate the Reggio Emilia approach and Outdoor Classroom philosophy while planning children’s learning experiences.  The curriculum keeps children curious, makes them wonder, and offers real problem-solving challenges. The teacher encourages inquiry and supports the child’s own search for answers that extends children’s knowledge and scaffolds their learning.

At Holy Martyrs ARS Ashkhen Pilavjian Preschool, the teachers/facilitators provide opportunities for children to acquire knowledge of Science, Math, Early Literacy, Music, and Drama through active inquiries and explorations.
